A joiner by trade, on site every day of your install. Strip-out, battening, boarding, wet wall, LVT and second fix all run through them. They set the pace of the job and lock up at night.

Plumber

In for first fix and again for second fix. Waste re-routing, supply pipework, the suite itself, and commissioning the thermostatic shower valve so the temperature holds when a tap runs elsewhere in the house.

Electrician

Handles zoning, RCD protection, supplementary bonding, the extractor, LED mirror and any shaver point. All work certified to BS 7671 — the Scottish Building Standards equivalent of Part P — with the certificate issued to you on completion.

Labour-Only, or Supply & Fit?

Worth knowing before you pick up the phone — because plenty of people searching for a bathroom fitter want one and not the other.

A lot of firms advertising as "bathroom fitters" are labour-only: you buy the suite, the panels, the flooring and the brassware yourself, they turn up and install what's in the boxes. It can work out cheaper on paper. It also means that when a wet wall panel arrives short, or the vanity doesn't clear the soil stack, that's your problem to solve — and every day the fitter stands idle is a day you're paying for.

We don't work that way. We're supply and fit only, and the price we write down is the whole job: design, every material, the labour, the skip, the certificate and the clean-up. There's one company on the hook for all of it, which is the only way a fixed price and a single warranty chain can actually hold together. If a panel is wrong, we replace it and you never hear about it.

That does mean we generally can't fit a suite you've bought elsewhere. If you're set on labour-only, tell us on the first phone call — we'll say so straight away rather than send someone out to your house to waste an hour of your evening.

How to Vet Any Bathroom Fitter in Cumbernauld

"Who is actually holding the tools?"

Ask whether the fitters are employed or subcontracted, and whether the person quoting will be on site. A vague answer here is the single biggest predictor of a job that drifts.

"Can I have that in writing, itemised?"

A written, itemised, fixed quote before any money changes hands. If it's a verbal ballpark or a one-line figure on a text message, there's nothing to hold anyone to when the number moves.

"Who certifies the electrics?"

Bathroom electrics are zoned work. Ask who signs it off to BS 7671 and when you get the certificate. If the answer is "my mate does the sparky bits", walk away — you'll need that paperwork when you sell.

"What's the payment schedule?"

Anyone wanting a large sum up front "for materials" before a single tile moves is asking you to carry their cash-flow risk. We don't take a penny until the job is finished and you've signed it off.

"Where does the old bathroom go?"

Strip-out waste is heavy and awkward. Confirm the skip, the uplift and the driveway arrangement are in the price — otherwise a cast-iron bath sits in your garden until someone pays to move it.

"What's the ventilation spec?"

Are your fitters employed by you, or subcontracted out?

Employed. They're on our payroll on a wage, not paid per completed job. That matters more than it sounds — piecework pay is what creates the incentive to finish fast rather than finish well, and it's the reason chain-subcontracted jobs so often fall down on the last ten percent of the finish.

Do you take on labour-only bathroom fitting?

No — we're supply and fit only. Our fixed price depends on us controlling the materials, and the warranty only holds together if one company is responsible for both the parts and the workmanship. If you've already bought a suite and just need it installed, we'll tell you on the first call so you're not waiting on a home visit that won't lead anywhere.

Can I meet the fitter before I commit to anything?

You'll meet the designer at the free home visit, and they'll tell you who's leading your install. There's no obligation at that stage — you get the written quote and we leave. No follow-up sales calls, and no pressure to sign on the day.

What happens if a fitter goes off sick halfway through my job?

Because the team is employed rather than subcontracted, cover comes from inside the same team — people who already know your job, your layout and where the job got to. We'd rather tell you a date has moved by a day than put a stranger into a half-finished room.

Do I need to be at home while the fitters are working?

Not for the whole week. Most customers are there for the first morning so we can walk the job together, then sort access arrangements for the rest, and back again for the walk-through at the end. We'll agree that with you at the quote stage rather than assume.

Can you work in an upper-floor or deck-access flat?

Yes — a large share of what we fit across Kildrum, Seafar, Carbrain and Abronhill is exactly that. The things that change are access for the strip-out waste and where the soil stack sits, both of which get checked at the home visit.
