"When can you start?" is usually the second question on a Cumbernauld home visit (after price). For 2026, the honest answer depends on the month, the spec, and whether your bathroom can wait. This guide is what we're seeing across G65 to G69 right now — typical lead times by season, and what speeds things up or slows them down.
Right Now — Current Lead Times
As of May 2026, we're typically booking installs 3–5 weeks from quote sign-off. That means if you book the home visit this week and sign off the written quote within a couple of days, you're looking at a start date in late June or early July. The install itself runs 5–7 working days, so most jobs are finished, paid for and signed off within roughly 6 weeks from initial enquiry.
For comparison, customers bringing us Wickes and Wren quotes for the same period are being told 8–10 weeks before fitter availability, sometimes longer.
Seasonality Across the Year
January–February (peak demand)
The Boxing Day "new year, new bathroom" effect, plus people wanting things done before Easter visits. Lead time 5–8 weeks, sometimes longer. Booked solid by mid-November in most years. If you want a January fit, enquire in October.
March–May (busy)
Tax-rebate spend, spring refresh. Lead times 3–5 weeks. The window where most of our family bathroom work gets fitted.
June–August (medium)
Holiday season takes a bite out of demand — people are away — but new-home owners drive a second wave. Lead times typically 2–4 weeks.
September–October (quietest)
The slowest months of the year. People are settling back into routines, schools are starting, summer holiday spend is recovering. Lead times 2–3 weeks. This is the cheapest, fastest, easiest time to book.
November–December (peak again)
Pre-Christmas push. We stop taking new bookings around 1 December for the year and resume mid-January. Lead time leading into this is 5–8 weeks. After 1 December, we point new enquiries to a January start.
Why We Book Faster Than the Chains
National chains coordinate three things: their internal sales pipeline, the customer's product order, and the local subcontractor's availability. Each of those has its own queue. By the time all three align, you've already lost 4–6 weeks.
We have one team, one diary, and one supplier relationship. The quote, the design, the order and the install are all controlled by us — there's no second department to wait for. The 3–5 week lead time isn't us being faster as tradesmen, it's the absence of the friction that chains build in.
Things That Genuinely Slow Things Down
- Asbestos surveys in CDC-era stock. Usually adds 1–2 weeks if a survey hasn't already been done. We won't strip a pre-1985 bathroom without one.
- Special-order finishes. Some premium wet wall finishes have a 2–4 week supplier lead time. We hold the most popular finishes in stock; rarer ones we order on quote sign-off.
- Building Warrant work. Rare for a like-for-like bathroom replacement, but a major layout change in a tenement may need one. Adds 6–8 weeks for the Council process; we'll flag it on the home visit.
- Macerator or specialist plumbing. Adds 3–5 days to procurement.
- Owner indecision. The honest one. We hold a slot for 7 days after the quote — beyond that the diary moves on. Quick decisions get faster dates.
How to Lock In Your Slot
- Book the home visit early. The visit is free, no obligation, and gets you a fixed written quote on the day. That's the date that counts — not when you start thinking about it.
- Decide within a week. Our diary fills weekly. The faster you sign off, the more start-date options you have.
- Pick standard finishes if you want the fastest start. We stock the popular wet wall, LVT and brassware lines. Special-order finishes are fine but add 2–4 weeks.
- Avoid the November–February rush if you can. September is the sweet spot for fast-and-cheap.
