The answer in central Scotland in 2026 sits between £2,299 and £4,500 for a typical job, and the spread comes from three things: tray, screen, and how much wall finish you're refreshing while you're at it.
What Affects the Cost
The five variables that move the price:
- Tray type and size. A 900 × 900 acrylic tray is the cheapest; a 1200 × 800 stone resin pushes mid-range; a tile-in level-access base is the most expensive. Tray comparison here.

- Brassware. Standard thermostatic mixer is included in the package; designer ranges (Hansgrohe, Crosswater) add £200–£600.
- Wall finish in the wet zone. Mid-range wet wall is the default; large-format porcelain tile or full-room wet wall extension adds £300–£800.
- Plumbing rework. If the new shower drain runs to the existing bath waste, no extra cost. If we need to relocate the waste run, add £180–£400.

Walk-In Plus — £2,899
Everything in Standard, plus a 1200 × 800 low-profile tray, frameless single-panel glass, rainfall + handheld shower, full-height wet wall in premium finish, niche shelf set into the wet wall, and anti-slip LVT in the entry zone. Our most-fitted spec for converting bath to walk-in.
Premium Conversion — £3,799
Everything in Walk-In Plus, plus a level-access tile-in tray, frameless glass with brass or matt-black profile, concealed thermostatic valve, designer brassware (Hansgrohe / Crosswater), full-room wet wall extension, and underfloor heating in the shower entry zone.
Beyond £3,799 you're typically into a fuller bathroom refit rather than a shower-only job — at which point our bathroom packages from £3,699 become the better-value option.
Bath Replacement vs New Location
The cheapest walk-in shower is one that goes where your bath used to sit. The bath waste, the wall feed for the shower mixer, the floor structure underneath — all of it is essentially in the right place already. We strip the bath, build up the tray, and we're 70% of the way through the job before we've started anything that adds significant cost.
A walk-in shower in a new location is a different job. Drainage runs to be cut into the floor or routed back to the soil stack; new wet feed pipework run from the boiler or tank; potentially structural work to support a tile-in base. Add typically £600–£1,200 to the comparable conversion price.
If you're considering moving the shower for layout reasons, weigh the cost honestly — sometimes the answer is to keep the shower where the existing bath is and rework the rest of the room around it.
Hidden Costs to Watch For
Quotes from chain retailers and some independent fitters often hide costs in the small print. What to ask:
- Is the tanking included? Should be standard. Some quotes leave it out and bill it as an extra at install time.
- Is the silicone and second-fix included? Should be standard. The "shower-only" quote that doesn't include sealant feels suspicious because it is.
- Is rubbish removal included? Should be standard. We bag and remove the strip-out the same day.
- Is electrical certification included? If the work touches the bathroom circuit (most do — anti-mist mirror, new extractor, etc.), the BS 7671 sign-off should be included.
- Is there a "subject to survey" clause? Avoid. We give a fixed price after the home visit, not before.
